Un Belize able!

Okay, so I will take a timeout from celebrating Mark's birthday to post a few comments and pictures on our trip to Belize. Mom will add her spin later. So, for starters, we had a great vacation. It was very relaxing and beautiful--each of you should do this vacation some day!
The highlight of the trip was probably the scuba diving--really amazing. The diving was very easy--not complex or scary at all. Having done a lot of hiking and paddling and climbing to experience some beautiful nature, I must say that scuba diving is the easiest way to see some amazing nature...back your fanny off a boat, sink down 30-60 feet and the marine life is amazing!
I will post a few underwater pictures later--once I peel them off the CD. Anyway, we saw eels, sea turtles (the most beautiful of all the marine life we saw), stingrays, lots of fish, and sharks! All were amazing! We did 10 dives ranging from 30 ft to 102 feet--most of our time was spent 50-65 feet under. Mom was fearless with the sharks--caressing them from head to tail. We were two blocks outside of the town of San Pedro--at a nice resort. San Pedro is a low-keyed town of about 20 square blocks--a mix of shopping, service businesses, and housing. All very lowly. Nothing modern.
No cars on the island, except taxis--all were at least 15 years old. Most everyone got around via golf carts or bikes. There is essentially no money in the country. I am pretty sure that every county in Texas has more money and infrastructure than Belize. They've been an independent country for 30 years and I am not quite sure why they wanted independence from the UK.
I am going to publish this before I lose it...back soon.

Ramon's looks like a great dive center! I imagine places like Belize have suffered quietly over the past few years as the high-profile countries have endured the economic downturn. The street in the bottom picture looks quaint and sleepy. Reminds me a little of our trip to Culebra, PR.
