Election Vibes

So, what do you think about the election? Results? Process?

For me, I am so much looking forward to two years without political ads. Bring back the beer commercials!

I know the election was a watershed event in our history, but I am not feeling it. I never looked at Obama as a black candidate--his credentials and values stood on their own--as do many celebrity blacks: Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Tiger Woods, etc. I am sure this event means alot to Black (and/or minority) Americans--as evidenced by the national reaction in the past 24 hours--but hopefully isn't as significant to White America; hopefully most are not that race sensitive.

As a MN voter, I celebrate the fact that we, so far, have avoided (by 500 votes) putting Al Franken in office! Jesse Ventura was bad enough. As we watched a bit of Seinfeld tonight, I told mom that I hoped that Seinfeld didn't move to MN to run for office.

I hope the election results boost the morale of the country; we've got plenty of serious issues to deal with--better to do that with a sense of optimism, rather than a spirit of blaming and fault finding (again, bring on the beer commercials).

Some of you put time and energy into the CA Proposition 8. The vote on that was close enough to indicate that grass roots efforts make a difference. Congrats to all who called for the protection of the sacred institution of marrage.

Finally, when you think you've been left in the dust and/or on the brink of failure (we all arrive at stage at times)--consider both of these candidates. McCain was left for dead about a year ago and charged back to be a contender. Obama was a state senator only a few years ago--and today is the President-Elect. Amazing stories--testimony of the merits of persistence, hard work, and belief in oneself.

What say ye? Love you all, Dad

Good post. I am happy about how the election turned out. I think Obama has the potential to be a great president. I think it's great that we have a 'black' president, and recognize that it means alot to some people. I would echo dad though and say that i don't think he was elected because he was black, but because he brought something the american people want as a whole. I'd be interested to know if his ratings were significantly higher in the black population than they normally are for democrats.
And Prop 8 seems to be a huge success! Happy about that! I recognize that it's a short-term fix to a long-term problem, and that no doubt it will surface again, probably at the national level eventually.
Shoot, you guys didn't vote for Franken?!? I penciled dad in. Sorry Dad, you gotta campaign more.
I actually forewent voting for all the little people, as i have no idea what they're all about.
hope you guys are great!

haha, it's true....he wrote in Dad's name.

but clearly I gave Mark privacy because that's part of the "witness" process of an absentee ballot....but yes...Dad should have won.

I am hoping to capture the victory in the recount! Keep an eye on the results!
