I spent Friday in Fargo with a handful of co-workers--providing a bit of assistance to their near-crisis. Time will tell whether their efforts will be sufficient to prevent massive damage to their city. I spent the day sand-bagging--part of a non-technical solution to the threat of the Red River flooding. Seriously, I am sure similar methods were used centuries ago. My forearms were killing me after shoveling sand for nearly an entire day (actually, they were flaming up after a couple of hours). I was impressed with the thousands of volunteers that showed up to help (around the clock for nearly an entire week--I was only there a day)--yes, there are a lot of great people on this planet that feel a sense of empathy toward others and are willing to serve. The effort was fairly well organized (matched the fairly simple task--but, hey, let's give the government credit for getting something right for a change). I would have preferred to work building the dikes (more adventure there)--but that wasn't an option. Here are a few videos ...summarizing the massive effort to protect the 22 miles of at-risk shoreline...Love, Dad
