This is a photograph taken by artist, Alfred Stieglitz. Stieglitz is a pioneer in developing photography, he was a chemistry major in school, but was fascinated with photography. This is a picture of New York, it is called "The Terminal" as a photographer, Stieglitz always pushed himself. I saw this today in class, and just imagined him working to capture this image in the frigid, biting New York wind - during the middle of winter. I've never felt such a horrible chill, penetrating down into my bones until walking the streets of New York. So cold! I am so glad he sacrificed to give us this sweet photo.
Mark, I am sure you can relate, standing in a frigid river to capture the image of a brooke, or going outside on a cold night - hands shaking trying to take a picture of the stars. That takes so much dedication! (Here's one more Stieglitz photo)

Early mass transit--quite the throwback! You're right--what an uncomfortable environment to be capturing on film. I am guessing that is steam coming off the horses--cold, harsh weather! Thanks for the post! Dad M
