House, etc. update

Progress on the house has been steady. They expect to finish by about the first of November, but have promised the land developer that they'll do open houses during the first two weekends in November--which means we'll probably get in about 18 November. They're putting in the doors and trimwork this week. Wood floor is done in the kitchen/hallwall area. Tile work was delayed at least a week as they used some bad material (a sealer/coater that they put down before the tile began to crack and peel). Outside finish of the house is essentially complete. We won't have much landscaping done (ran out of money a while back)--the palm trees in the picture will be yanked--I think they'll just die--not sure why they were ever brought in. The good news is that the existing surroundings are naturally beautiful.

Mom is working 5:30 am till 8 pm again tonight and then will drive to the cottage to see Papa. Hopefully she can get there safely; she almost knocked out two fawns on Wednesday eve. She hasn't been to the lake since labor day with Dave and Rachel. He's not been doing so well the past few weeks--serious bouts of confusion. I am guessing his residence will change to Princeton within 3 weeks.

I have a busy weekend planned--hoping to go to the temple tonight, get in a lake swim and 2-3 mile run tomorrow, prep a couple of lessons, watch the Badgers demolish MSU, and play nine holes of golf with Leanna and Nate (and my new, red golf bag).

Hope you all are doing well! Love, Dad

hahahahaha!!!!!!!! the palm trees!!!!! hilarious!

you crack me up.

poor Papa. I really feel sad for him. It must be so frustrating to be so confused. It will be nice for him to be back in the cities, with people to care for him.

I can't wait to see the house this weekend! I didn't know the wood floor was in...or the siding was complete...it's been so long since we've visited. Cant wait to see the progress!

It should be a fun weekend!! We're excited to come up and see you! :)

Thanks for the house update! I had no idea where you guys' were at with the house, good to hear it's coming along so nicely. I am just amazed at how fast they've been able to build this house. My family has observed the building processes of many homes - and they've always been so slow. At least a year. I would've loved being able to see a house go up in a matter of a few months.

Have fun golfing this weekend! Mason I guess was golfing with my fam yesterday - wasn't looking straight ahead and drove the cart into a bunker. Don't do that! haha!

Better to drive the cart into the bunker than a water hazzard! Fun times on the course. Yes, it's gone pretty quickly. I think alot of it has to do with the experience of the builder and their ability to schedule work--knowing that A will be done by X so that B can be scheduled for Y. It also helps to have people working on the project; at times there will be a handful of carpenters, some plumbing or electrical guys, and then some more guys outside. Of course, when the industry is building 15% of what they did 5 years ago--there are plenty of people around, ready to work! Hopefully the glut of houses is just about bought up--so the trades guys can all get back to work (at least many more of them!)

Update: Nate & I saw the house on Saturday morning - it looks GREAT!!!!!!!!! We were really impressed. We haven't been up to see it for a couple weeks - and they've made tons of progress - the paint looks good - the siding looks really nice! Love the tile! Cant wait till it's all done. Good work Mom & Dad - you've put a ton of time into picking out EVERYTHING for the house - and it's coming together beautifully!
