There's so many traditional signs of springtime in the midwest: love is in the air (see earlier post by Emily, first sightings of robins, tulips push their way through the soil, and a new one for us--the exit of the fish/ice houses from the lake. In MN the DNR requires everyone to remove their fish/houses from the lakes by March 1. No sense in having any of those castles crash through thin ice! So yesterday there was a steady parade of fish/ice houses exiting the lake--signaling the end of winter. Of course, they were being pulled by trucks and cars--indicating that the ice was far from breaking up. I am sure the ice is at least 4 feet thick--and will still be around for another six weeks. So, if you haven't seen any robins or tulips lately--be warned...spring is right around the corner! Now, go re-read Emily's post!!

Signs of Springtime...

goodbye, 'castles'!!!! ha! can't wait for spring to arrive. i'm loving the sunshine & warmer weather!
well, i see this as a good thing for you two..a monopoly on all blue lake fish for the next 6 weeks. rack 'em in!! have you set up the fillet bench and the calendar with the daily count? grandpa!
*actually, i take it back. i think he has grandma do all that :)
Once again, Mark mocks his parents. For that very reason we did not post a picture of our ice house--it's not pretty but its "home" for a few months of the year. And, yes, your mommy is not happy unless she is filleting fish. Our freezer will be full before the ice is off the lake. Dad
