This morning the Lake Minnetonka Triathlon was held. I participated, was very satisfied with my race, enjoyed the event, etc.
But the most emotional part of the morning followed the race announcements. Ross Cosigny is a chiropractor in Excelsior; he is the race director and has organized this event for the past 8 years--with some help from his wife. After he was done giving the race instructions he announced that his eleven year old daughter was going to sing the National Anthem--and she did. Here is what brought me near to tears:
1. Sense of family--you could see the pride in Ross's eyes and the special moment it was for him to include his daughter in such a big way.
2. The hope of youth. Wow, what a poised rendition. The young woman was not a gifted singer--but she was poised and courageous--as 600 athletes and guests watched.
3. The anthem itself is always precious--a reminder of our freedom, liberty, and the sacrifice of those that have provided and protected it for us.
Life doesn't get much more precious. Love, dad
