1509 S. 168th Street

That's an interesting picture of my brother Joe and I at our first home in New Berlin, WI. It's ironic because I was just mentioning this morning that my grandparents (Irma and Howie) raised 10 children in a house that was about 1000 square feet. I failed to even think about the fact that we were raised in a home of about 1200 square feet. We lived there until I was 12 years old. My three brothers and I shared a bedroom that was about 12 x 12. We had very little--but were never lacking. I had a rich childhood in that home--with very little in terms of material wealth. My parents and grandparents have provided a rich legacy of character, charity, service, integrity, humility, hard work, compassion, and frugality, and a respect for spritual things. We've all been blessed by their lives. Dad

Great post. Something tells me if they had mortgages today, your parents'/grandparents' mortgages wouldn't be the one in ten that are estimated to be in trouble right now. Heather adds that she "loves your little sweater, Peter!" All those kids, and there was still a tricycle in the corner not being used!

Dad, thanks so much for your post. I have always been so impressed with your parents and grandparents & the ways in which they built their families. I enjoyed the Christmas devotional tonight which reminded me to be humble & giving. I think your parents have been a great example of working hard & living simply. its a great reminder to me of the importance of family values & the happiness we enjoy as families, in even the simplest moments of life. Thanks again, dad. I really enjoyed this.

That's a pretty small home! You guys seemed to make the best out of it. It'd be great to hear more of your stories.
